This annual should be planted in the springtime after the soil is able to be worked. Romaine prefers full sun exposure and will endure partial shade. Direct sow. Plant the seed an eighth of an inch deep and space every four to sixteen inches. This lettuce will mature between thirty and sixty days and its leaves will be six to seven inches in length when ready for harvest.
