Canadian Customs regulations place certain limitations and requirements on shipments of seeds, soil and fertilizer entering Canada. Small quantities have no restrictions and you can order online without concern, while larger volumes have some additional requirements.

Ship seeds to Canada

Prohibited to Ship to Canada:

Soil – Soil is prohibited, and we cannot ship loose soils or kits containing loose soil to Canada. Hydroponic grow mediums like jute mats, micro-mats and biostrate mats are acceptable, Coco-Coir products like Minute Soil, are also acceptable.

Small Seed Lots, Kits & Other Goods:

Small Vegetable Seeds – We can ship seed varieties in quantities under 500 total grams (1.1 Lbs) without restrictions or additional requirements. Small seeds are any seed containing more than 200 or more seeds per gram, and typically include seeds like tomato, pepper, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, celery, carrot, onion, etc…Comprehensive List

Large Vegetable Seeds – We can ship seed varieties in quantities under 5 total kilograms (11 Lbs) without any restrictions or additional requirements. Large seeds are any seed containing 200 or fewer seeds per gram, and typically include seeds like grains (wheat, rye, barley), peas, beans, corn, cantaloupe, pumpkin, chard, beet, radish, etc… Comprehensive List

Flower & Herb Seeds – We can ship all seed varieties for herbs and flowers without any restrictions or additional requirements.

Grains - Regardless of the type or quantity of grain seeds (wheat, barley, oat, rye, etc...) you will need a phytosanitary certificate to facilitate getting your order into Canada. You need 1 phyto certificate per order (even if multiple items on the order). The pyto needs to be ordered and seed testing performed, so this may delay shipment of your order by up to 4 weeks.

Hard Goods – There are no restrictions on shipping non-seed hard goods. These include items like sprouters, growing trays, etc… If it doesn’t contain seeds or soil, there is no problem.

Fertilizers – Fertilizers like Azomite and Mittleider can be shipped into Canada, so long as the quantities are under 10 Kilograms total.

Kits - All of our kits contain seed quantities that place them in the small seed lot category. However if you are ordering more than 1 kit in an order, it is possible that the seed quantity for the order goes over the limit. Please call us to place your order by phone if ordering more than 1 kit at a time.

Large Seed Lots:

Herb & Flower Seeds - These can ship to Canada regardless of variety of quantity. No additional testing or certification is required.

Vegetable Seeds - If you are ordering vegetable seed for shipment to Canada in quantities larger than those specified above (half a kilo for small seed varieties, 5 kilos for large seed varieties) you will need to have a Canada Seed Analysis Certificate for each variety in your order (that exceeds the small lot quantity). For example, you place an order for 5 varieties of small seeded vegetable seed, three varieties you order 4 ounces each, the other two varieties, 5 lbs each. The two 5 lb varieties would require a SAC, one for each variety, the other three do not require a SAC. So you should add 2 seed analysis certificates to your order for checkout. Please note that obtaining a seed analysis certificate may delay your order by up to 4 weeks, but often not nearly that long.
